Default The Wire

The 5th and final season of The Wire began two weeks ago, with the third episode airing this Sunday. As usual the writing and acting don't disappoint. What are everyone's impressions of the new season? And does anyone know why it doesn't air in HiDef?

I just started watching this season (which is retarded), but thus far I've been absolutely blown away. I wish I knew sort of how everything's come to this point so perhaps I'll have to give these DVDs a rent in the future.

I can't even fathom starting at Season 5. All that backstory missing; I mean you have no idea how much has gone down, not to mention how many awesome series-defining characters are already dead.

I tried starting at Season 2 and was massively confused, so I went back and watched Season 1, and only then went on with Season 2.

Anyway, this season's been everything you'd expect from The Wire, although I am little disturbed/confused as to what exactly happened with McNulty at the end of Ep 2. I guess he's reached a breaking point? Because messing with the crime scene like that seems out of character. I'm sure future episodes will clear things up some. Also, I honestly have no idea what the hell he was doing. Was he trying to disappear the murder out of frustration with the pay situation? I need to rewatch the ep.

I think he was checking the victim because he felt the death was much like the other one where they thought it was a suicide but he felt it was a homicide. I assume he thought that body also could've potentially been a homicide.

I'm pretty sure he's trying to create the illusion that crime is even more of a problem than it actually is and force the city to increase police funding.

Just finished catching up last night and watching tonight's episode. Liking Season 5 a lot thus far.

The McNulty/crime scene thing gets answered this episode and it's an interesting twist to this show. I love how it really draws a line between Bunk and McNulty and shows the type of cops they really are. Bunk is the talented cop who cares but only to a certain point. McNulty cares until it kills him. Also found it interesting that Lester is all on board with McNulty and provided him with pointers.

REALLY glad that they're brining the Daniels' corruption back story back around since it was left very unanswered in Season 1. Once my buddy heard about the newspapers playing a big role in Season 5, his theory was that they'd bring this story back and tie it in with the paper investigating Daniels' past as he gets a serious look for the commissioner position.

Much more to discuss (Marlowe's ruthlessness, the return of Omar, Michael potentially seeing the light, the Clay Davis case, etc), but I'll see what some of the other people here think.

After seeing the first two episodes I'm real impressed with the season so far. It's good to see McNulty back to his old ways. Now I'm just waiting for the new episodes to hit the internet.

I know you all are in Season 5 but I am still in Season 3 so if you dont mind Im gonna talk a little bit about Season 3 and hope for some of your feedback. Things are about to pop off in Season 3. Prop Joe and the rest of the affiliation are pissed off at Avon for not ending this war with Marlo and his peoples. Stringer told Avon the truth about D' and his death. Omar is about to go crazy cause they shot at him on a Sunday morning taking his Grandma to church. Prez just killed an undercover in an alley accidentally. Carcetti is about to screw his boy over when he announces he is running for Mayor. And McNulty is still an asshole. Season is getting good real good.

I loved that scene and the fall out that comes with it. The indignation that a lot of the people in the game feel over breaking the Sunday Truce was really entertaining for me. I remember the quote by Prop Joe(?) being something like, "You damn shot off a old woman's head piece... ON A SUNDAY!"

Great stuff.

Yeah, rewatching Ep 2, it became pretty obvious what was going on, even before I got to that last scene. It was set up early in the ep when the medical examiner was explaining how, in a separate case, an accidental death was being mistaken for a homicide.

I'm still a little skeptical about this storyline. Especially now with Freamon getting in the mix.

I finally finished Season 3. Season 3 sure did pick up steam. I saw it coming with String but damn thats the first death on the show that I am like, damn I wish that hadn't happened. The look on Avon's face was priceless when he saw who the informant was on the warrant. Face off with Brother and Omar is possibly the best beginning to an episode to date. I knew Rawls was a fag, always taking about guys bending over and how tight their asshole is etc, anyways seeing him in the gay bar while Brother was looking for Omar was hilarious to say the least. I liked Season 3 but so far I would say it goes in order for me in terms of which season I like the most from Season 1 - 3. I wonder what happens to the Barksdale crew now. Especially guys like Bodie and Slim. I'll be starting Season 4 tomorrow cant wait. Sorry for my somewhat incoherent rant/thoughts on Season 3.

Excellent 3rd episode of the season. Interesting to see Lester getting involved in Jimmy's serial killer idea. Omar coming back has the potential to be great as well.
