Futbol World Cup Qualifying - South America

World Cup Qualifying in South America is super smooth. Ten teams will play each other home and away (total of 18 games per side) as part of one large group. Top four teams automatically qualify, while the #5 team battles CONCACAF's #4 in a playoff for the final Western Hemisphere bid.

The standings through September 9th's action:

After the next game, we'll be at the halfway point in CONMEBOL. I think Chile being in the Top 4 right now is a bit of a surprise, but Uruguay is just one point behind and Colombia is right there at three back with 10 games to go.

My apologies for not continuously updating these as planned - I have been a bit busy. But without further adieu!

The order of the top four remains unchanged as Paraguay continues its march towards being the first team to qualify. The race for the 5th spot is tightening, though, as Ecuador climbs up the table to attempt to overtake Uruguay. Another country making a decent run is Bolivia with 4 points in the last two games, now just 4 points away from 5th place.
