I can not wait for this. My favorite sporting event is the Olympics.
What I'm already looking forward to: 1. Men's 100m Tyson Gay vs. the two Jamaican beasts Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell. Really a coin flip at this point who is the favorite 2. Men's 1500m USA will be the favorite for the first time in a very long time with Bernard Legat becoming a US citizen. El Guerrouj is gone and Legat moves over to be the big favorite. 3. Basketball If the US is going to get back their gold, this is the year. 4. Long Jump Can Dwight Phillips defend his gold medal? Is Irving Saladino the man to beat after his impressive showing at the World Championships?

Tyson Gay pulled out of the 200m qualifier today with severe cramping.
Really hope this doesn't effect him for the 100m. If he told one of his handlers what he was feeling pre-race before he ran and they still let him out there they should be fired. |

Gay has mild strain.
He is going to limit his training for two weeks. This sucks. ESPN - Gay MRI reveals mild strain; training limited for two weeks - Trackandfield |

Amid all of the stories about the air quality and the athlete's concerns, I have to ask:
Did anyone even think about that beforehand? Seems pretty obvious in a city like Beijing. And also, this could start becoming a legitimate concern as we go into the future, as the air quality in many major cities is pretty poor.

Anyway, I'm excited for 100m, 200m, and 400m for both men and women. Basketball is up there along with some swimming events. |
