Breakfast at Wimbledon might be my favorite sporting event in all of sports excluding ones my teams participate in. Love waking up on that Sunday morning and watching tennis. Been doing it since I was a little kid and haven't really missed one ever.
Seeds were announced today: Men's Singles
Federer has won the last 5 and Nadal took him to 5 sets last year in that epic battle and really the only time he has been really, really pressed in my mind. If he was ever vulnerable, its now.

JJ, I love you so much for this... is there any way I can bribe you (I don't have the money to donate
) to put the American Flag and Roddick as a user title?

On the subject of tennis, I'll also be rooting for Roddick/Blake and Djokovic, I won't be rooting for Federer because that's like rooting for the sun to rise and set..
Roddick is coming off of that absolutely DEVASTATING loss to frechman Richard Gasquet last season in which he was dominating the tournament and even the match till that fateful third set, IIRC he lost without facing a single break point against him, he pulled out of the French Open to get himself ready for this, so high expectations here Blake will probably win a few and then disappear, not a bad rap on him, but it's just the way he is, depending on his draw he could make it pretty far, the other guys in the top 10 will determine his fate On the Women's side I'll be rooting for Maria Kirilenko and Jelena Jankovic because I enjoy watching them play the most, and Ana and Maria Sharapova are probably the favorites to win this... Anywho, my picks are Mens: Federer should take this, unless something with the mono flares up again, his dominance in Wimbledon is akin to Nadal's on clay Womens: Venus Williams, she owns Wimbledon when she's on, and Ivanovic is more a hardcourt/clay dominant player, grass evens her game out Men's Sleeper: Roddick, funny that he goes from World #1 to a sleeper, but based on last year's performance and his beating Federer in Key Biscayne earlier this year, he has everything he needs to take this. Women's Sleeper: Nicole Vaidisova, I admit I'm grabbing at air here a bit, but in the women's bracket, outside of 5 of the top 10, anyone can win at any time, Sharapova has health issues, as does Serena every now and then... so this is just a guess more than anything Look out for: If you're a guy, and you watched last year, you'll be looking for Tatiana Golovin's red knickers again

I would do that because I like you, but I don't think its fair to those that have donated as its a perk just for them.
I'll contemplate adding a tennis field to the favorite teams though. My picks are... Men: Rafael Nadal. If he is ever going to win this, its now. I was down on Federer more after the French but what he did at the Gerry Webber Open is one of the more impressive things hes done, which is saying a lot. Even with that going for him after what happened last year and how Nadal has looked this year he is the best player in the world and I think he is going to have just enough to take him on grass. Don't overlook the significance of Nadal's win at the Queen's Club either. I'm hoping for that almost inevitable matchup or a Krajicek-like improbable run by someone. Sleeper: Andy Roddick Women: Maria Sharapova. Not much reasoning to this outside the fact I repsect her as a fierce competitor and her losing the no. 1 ranking and getting back to what she did 4 years ago here will play big. There is a ton of parity on the women's side right now so I expect a ton of upsets and why I feel Mauresmo should be looked at seriously. Sleeper: Amelie Mauresmo |

![]() I'll post draws as soon as the qualifiers are over Quick hit on Mauresmo though, she's had strong showings before, and obviously you and I both agree on the substantial amount of parity in the women's circuit, but that's certainly a interesting pick IMO, she's been pretty unimpressive since she got beat there last year |

I've been hearing good things about her during the Eastbourne championships this year.
I just looked some stuff up though and apparently she got injured today and retired early in a match. ![]() Maybe/hopefully its just precautionary. |

So, I just did a look at the qualifiers, nobody worth noting (not surprising, qualifiers and all) but I did notice Maria Kirilenko was entered in the Doubles Quals, so, I have a feeling she may not last long in either the singles or the doubles, she has a problem playing through long tournaments..
It should be noted though, No qualifier has won either the Gentlemen's Singles or the Ladies' Singles tournaments. The furthest that any qualifier has progressed in the main draw of a Singles tournament is the semi-final round: John McEnroe in 1977 and Vladimir Voltchkov of Belarus in 2000 (Gentlemen's Singles), and Alexandra Stevenson in 1999 (Ladies' Singles). A majority of the entrants are unseeded. Only two unseeded players have ever won the Gentlemen's Singles Championship:Boris Becker in 1985 and Goran Ivanišević in 2001. (In 1985 there were only sixteen seeds - Becker was ranked 20th at the time; Ivanišević, however, was as low as 125th.) No unseeded player has captured the Ladies' Singles title; the lowest seeded female champion was Venus Williams, who won in 2007 as the twenty-third seed, beating her own record from 2005, when Williams won as the fourteenth seed. Unseeded pairs have won the doubles titles on numerous occasions; the 2005 Gentlemen's Doubles champions were not only unseeded, but also (for the first time ever) qualifier. They give many wildcards to players from Britain. |

Awesome thread. Rep'd. Breakfast at Wimbledon is one of the highlights of my sports year as well. Don't follow tennis as much as I'd like to, but something about that telecast has always kept me glued in and interested.
I'll be rooting for Blake and Federer, my two favorite players. That said, I can see Djokovic, who is really coming into his own, and Nadal, who is obviously aching to beat Federer on tennis' biggest stage, making things very interesting. Though rooting for such a heavy favorite may seem boring to some, I want to see greatness and the best tennis in the world being played. No one does those two better than Federer.

Why's that?
They're both pretty cool, and Lleyton's "settled down" a bit, neither of them have a shot btw, Lleyton can't beat anyone in the top 10 anymore and Murray was the next big thing but seemingly fell off the face of the Earth |
