Ah man, it's great to be starting college basketball with the heartache Temple football has been giving me. Although it's time for the Owls to fly on the court, it's a season of questions. They lose Chris Clark and Mark Tyndale for an A-10 title team. Still there is all-word Dionte Christmas with a fresh cast of faces. Really watch out for LaVoy Allen this year as with some maturity, he could really step up to be the good second scorer the team really needs.
First off for Temple is East Tennessee State. It appears that the Bucs returns it's top two scorers from last year and one is Courtney Pigram. The Owls are notoriously slow starters to their season losing two winnable games last year in a tournament to begin the season. The games are in Charleston and should be sparsely attended by both teams. Another factor is Sergio Olmos' sprained ankle. If he can't give it a go, we'll see some early Michael Eric who is tall and athletic. The spread is 11.5 or 12.5 in some places. As a Temple fan, my expectations are low right now for this team and while they could get good later, it'll take some time to gel. Give me the more experienced team and ETSU +12.5. Other Picks for today: William and Mary +11 over Penn State -- The Tribe return a bunch of starters from a team that almost won the CAA last night. They will slow the game down enough to hang around. Georgia State -2 @ Bowling Green -- Watch out for the Panthers this year as they will be a threat. Good recruiting class plus solid upperclassmen equals a team who will be pretty good this season. Under 148 for Appy State and UNC Wilmington -- This team will slow it down. Wilmington has lost a lot of players from last year outside of Chad Tomko. I think this will be played in the 60's. Bradley/UIC Over 142 -- Both teams love to shoot the 3 and if Bradley's on then this total will get over easily. Rutgers -10 -- Marist's golden boy Jordan is gone...Rutgers plays well at home...I'll roll with the Scarlet Knights. Eastern Washington +20 -- With the lack of scoring in this one as evidenced by the low O/U total....I'll take the dog in what should be a tight low scoring game.

"It speaks to everything we are trying to do here," he said. "What I mean by that is, it's easy to punt the ball. Anybody can punt the ball. It's conventional wisdom. But you know what? We are trying to change 30 years of this crap, and I want to show them that we are going to go for it and make it right here. There is going to be a day, I pray it's sooner rather than later, that we are going to make that yard." -- Al Golden on why he went for it on 4th and 1. |

Nothing wrong with betting against your team (im sure you're aware)
if you like $$ (i like $$), betting against your team is a necessity because you know all their quirks and tendencies

Here's the picks....
Temple +9.5 -- That's right, the Owls are gonna do it again. Kansas has struggled as of late. The Jayhawks know they gotta cover Dionte Christmas but Ryan Brooks and Sergio Olmos will do youman's work here and keep the scoring going. Temple may not win but they will cover. VCU +13 -- Oklahoma doesnt scare me outside of Griffin. This will be an emotional game as they play their old coach who recruited a few of them too. Eric Maynor will go off on ESPN2 and the Rams will cover. Cornell -2 -- Paint me unimpressed by La Salle. This is the type of game that Cornell sneaks up on you and takes a lead before you even know it. Columbia +16 -- The Hokies don't blow anyone out. Drake Pick -- How often do they get a big 10 school at home. Drake is playing well again this season and should beat Iowa at home. Davidson +5 -- The magic continues for this team over an overrated Big 10 team. |

Record: 37-28 (Record posted on Covers.com message board picks)
Georgia +6 -- Missouri is a very streaky team. Very athletic but prone to stretches of turnovers. The Bulldawgs have some talent themselves and can keep this one close. Wisconsin -10 -- I usually hate betting on these guys because watching Big 10 basketball sets u back many years in life. If you've seen PSU's last two years results at Kohl Center...you'd agree with this one too. Kansas State -18 -- Idaho State has played a brutal schedule and just played literally two days ago and was taken to the brink by Northern Colorado at home. KSU should run them out of the gym on Saturday. Michigan State -4.5 -- There's that stinkin Big 10 game again. Call me not a believer in Northwestern. Sure, they lull you to sleep but the Spartans dwarf them in talent. I'll take a chance with the short number. Youngstown State +14 -- Wright State without Duggins isnt very good. Neither is YSU but they just got themselves a conference road win and maybe some confidence. Wyoming +11.5 -- I dont know why they are such big dogs in this one. I realize Utah is tough at home and fresh off a win against Gonzaga but...Wyoming's got the talent if the Utes come out slow. Besides many of the fans may be at the Sugar Bowl anyways. Seton Hall +8 -- I'm banking the crappy WVU shows up. I havent been that impressed with them and I saw Ruoff is questionable. Seton Hall's got the talent to win this one outright too. VCU -5.5 -- Normally I hate laying road numbers with this team but after their win against Hampton, Coach Grant laid into this team. I was in the postgame presser and the fire in his eyes was deep. I'm bettin he worked the hell out of the Rams and it'll show against Delaware. Troy -6 -- FIU has laid some clunkers on the road and with the Trojans style the Panthers won't keep up. FIU is averaging 40 something points per game too on the road. Over/unders will be added tomorrow. Time's yours |
