![]() ![]() Jose Ceda had a 2.08 ERA in 30.1 Innings for AA Tennessee along with 42 K's The Chicago Cubs have acquired Florida Marlins reliever Kevin Gregg, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. The Marlins received 22-year-old right-hander Jose Ceda in return, according to sources. Gregg, who was Florida's closer for most of the 2008 season, saved 29 games last season and was 7-8 with a 3.41 ERA. He blew nine saves for the Marlins in 2008. He is the fourth arbitration-eligible player traded by the Marlins this offseason, joining first baseman Mike Jacobs, who was traded to Kansas City, and outfielder Josh Willingham and starting pitcher Scott Olsen, who were traded to Washington. Chicago's closer, Kerry Wood, is scheduled to become a free agent at midnight. Source

Great deal for the Marlins. This kid and Tucker is a future 8-9.
We do need a lefty eventually though.

Awesome deal. BA has Ceda as the #4 spec in the Cubs system and best fastball. Like his MiL numbers too.
It's deals like this that make me scratch my head about the Nats deal. |

I go back to my reaction to the Jacobs trade.
Good that we got something back that would conventionally have value, but we need to stop stockpiling relievers and we eventually have to address 2009 team need. For a team on as laughable a budget as ours, it seems to me we'd be better off using trades, rather than free agency, to fill those needs. |
