![]() On the first day teams could expand their Major League roster, the Marlins filtered in five total players, spreading out the moves over the course of a few hours. Before beating the Braves, 4-3, on Monday, left-hander Andrew Miller and outfielder Brett Carroll were added to provide depth. After the game, the team recalled three players from Triple-A Albuquerque -- third baseman Dallas McPherson, infielder Robert Andino and right-hander Eulogio De La Cruz. Miller and Carroll returned from rehab assignments and were reinstated off the disabled list. Miller, who went on the disabled list with right patella tendinitis on July 17, made six rehab assignment appearances. The 23-year-old opened the season in the Marlins rotation, but for now he will work out of the bullpen. Miller made an immediate impact on Monday, striking out the side in order in the seventh inning. Carroll, 25, went on the disabled list on May 24 with a right shoulder sprain after he collided with the wall at Dolphin Stadium. He had been on the 60-day DL. Now that he is back, to make room on the 40-man roster, catcher Mike Rabelo was transferred to the 60-day DL. "It's tough to be away from the team," Miller said. "They are putting me in the bullpen, and I'm certainly happy to take that role." Miller made his last appearance with the Marlins on July 13 in a rough outing at the Dodgers on the day before the All-Star break. He lasted 1 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs on five hits while walking five. "I didn't have a good taste in my mouth after that last outing, which wasn't very good," Miller said. "I look forward to being back there and finishing strong." Acquired from the Tigers last December as part of the Miguel Cabrera/Dontrelle Willis trade, Miller is 5-9 with a 5.63 ERA in 20 starts for the Marlins. He has compiled 100 2/3 innings. The last time Miller relieved was with the Tigers in 2006, when all eight of his big league appearances were out of the bullpen. "It certainly is a lot different," Miller said. "Luckily, I've done it a little bit before, and it won't be the first time. I will have to adjust as necessary." Whether Miller gets any more starts this season depends on how the club handles the rotation. Rookie Chris Volstad has done a terrific job in 10 big league appearances with nine starts. The 21-year-old has logged 56 1/3 innings with the Marlins, and he's also thrown 91 innings in the Minor Leagues. As of now, there is no indication that Volstad will be shut down, but that could change in a week or two, perhaps, depending on if the team is still in the National League East race or not. At some point, Miller may be asked to make a start in Volstad's slot. "I want to do what I can to help out, and at the same time, I want to do what I can to end on a good note," Miller said. Carroll is a strong defender, who provides a right-handed bat off the bench. He also could be used as a late-inning defensive replacement. "I've been able to play the last couple of weeks for the Jupiter team, to get the feel back and move around," Carroll said. "I want to help this team any way I can." Carroll played in 15 rehab games before being brought back. At Triple-A, McPherson won the home run title with 42. The left-handed hitting third baseman added 98 RBIs while batting .275. He provides a power bat off the bench. Andino has appeared in 40 games with the Marlins this season, where he is batting .213 with two home runs and nine RBIs. For Albuquerque, he batted .287 with six homers and 26 RBIs. The Marlins likely will use Andino as a defensive replacement, and he becomes a pinch-run option. Andino has played shortstop, third base, second base and center field for Florida. De La Cruz is a hard-throwing right-hander who went 13-8 with a 4.34 ERA in 25 Minor League starts. He made one start and two relief appearances for the Marlins. Marlins bring up five players Monday | floridamarlins.com: News

I know it was mentioned already that the Carolina players wouldn't be called up till after the play offs, but I noticed Maybin was the only person that didn't play in Carolina's game today.
