Ok. And if it does happen, this place will be fun. And funny.

A patronizing post from yourself seems to be the status quo so let's start with that.

I'll be patronizing as shit if we go on a three game win streak, don't you worry.
I'll be all like "I told you so, you guys are such assholes". It'll be awesome. But really, we lose a few games and all of a sudden we sound like Mets fans. Come on, guys. We're Marlins fans, we've got nothing to lose anyways. We're not supposed to be here, so let's enjoy the ride. We're in a down period, but we'll have an up soon. That's how baseball works. Uggla, Hermida, Cantu, and Willingham aren't .550 OPS guys. They aren't 1.000 OPS guys either, but they'll get back to their collective .750-850 OPS ways and we'll look a whole lot better. Our pitching is legit. Last edited by bobbob1313; August 16th, 2008 at 12:41 AM.. |

I like this move, mostly because we finally no longer have a short bench.

I agree with bob. Dude, cmon most people had us at 60 wins tops this year. I'm not saying give up now but we've accomplished a lot. And with players like Maybin coming up and maybe if Loria signs a nice free agent, who knows? This team could be the favorite in the NL east next year if the rotation is still here.

Well, I expect Hanley to be better. Same goes for Uggla, Cantu, Hermida, and Jake. You have to remember Herms is only 24 and Jake is 25. I wouldn't call Jake's .300 OBP overachieving. We just did really well in the first half and are sucking in the second half. I think if you keep this core together and add some nice new pieces, we could be a great team.

I think this team is very well set up for a long term run if we play our cards right. Obviously, everything has to fall into place (including a stadium + Loria opening up his wallet a little), but I think we'll be pretty competitive for a while.
The key is being smart with the pitchers. Don't let Volstad go more than 180 innings or so. Nothing stupid with Anibal or JJ; pull them at 105 or so pitches no matter what. Olsen I don't think will be here next year, so whatever. Ricky seems like a horse for us, and he's the most advanced, physically, I feel. I think we're in a pretty good position because Gaby and Coghlan should be able to step up next year and be pretty valuable additions, and should add some versatility since both don't strike out much and have great plate discipline. I wouldn't have any problems trading Jake and Uggla at the least and putting them in the lineup day one. |

Uggla and Jake are as likely to be .750 OPS guys next season as they are all-stars. The league has figured most of our team out, and our team is very very stubborn, adjustments don't come easily, or at all. Could next years team be fantastic? Absolutely. Our rotation, Maybin, Hanley and some of this years left overs can't be significantly worse than we are now, and like you said, it just takes one free agent hitter who adds a different element than tons of K's and doubles, and our lineup is solid, but then again, the Mets have a lot of payroll coming off after this season and may not be this beatable again in our window. We are more the beneficiaries of the Mets team being old and bad than we are our own team being that good and deserving of a division title. I really don't have any idea where I'm going with this thought anymore, so I'll just conclude with the thought that we are as good as our record says we are, so I won't say that we don't deserve to be here or we should just enjoy it or whatever, but I will say that this years record means nothing when anticipating next year's performance, if anything, this year's team should reenforce that. |

I actually wouldn't totally mind keeping Jake, but I want 2 of Willingham, Uggla, and Jake gone after the year. Personally, Uggla's got a ton of value to us in trade, and it would suck if we did trade him ('Fire Sale!!') but I think it would be the right move.
I would love alineup like this next year: CF Cam 2B Coghlan (I think he's perfect in the 2 spot) SS Hanley 3B McPherson (I know it'll never happen, so Cantu works fine) 1B Gaby RF Hermida LF Willingham (?) Free agent (?) Trade (?) C Baker/Someone from the Uggla trade (?) That to me could be a decent team, and with our pitching, I think it's enough (Though I didn't think there'd be that much turnover.) |

Season = FAR FROM OVER.
Has anyone noticed the Mets strength of schedule lately? Don't count the Marlins out because they sure as hell aren't counting themselves out. Yes, last night felt like someone put my nuts in a blender and pushed "Puree" but the season's not over fellas. |
