Nolasco and Hendrickson Are Your Best and Worst For June

Ricky and his curveball mowed down hitters all month

Ricky Nolasco is the June winner of Teal and Black's Top Performer Award. Ricky edged out National League Player of the Month Hanley Ramirez in a poll of T&B users.

Nolasco went 3-1 in June posting a crisp 3.31 ERA over 35 1/3 innings pitched. He went seven innings or more in three of his five starts.

The right-hander raised eyebrows in his June 15th start at Tampa Bay. Nolasco threw a career high 132 pitches over 8 2/3, striking out 12 batters, allowing three runs (2 earned) on six hits issuing a lone walk.

Meanwhile on the south side of the rotation, Mark Hendrickson brought back nightmares of Darren Oliver and Al Leiter.

LASIK went 0-3 in June posting a rather disturbing 7.77 ERA in 24 ½ innings pitched over five starts. Hendrickson did his best to stay away from the mound, going five innings or fewer in three starts.

For this tremendous effort, he is the June recipient of the Ramon Castro Memorial Award. This RCMA is awarded to the player that best exemplifies the art of poor play and performance on the diamond every month. It is named after former Marlins catcher Ramon Castro, who batted .135 as a starting catcher in 2004.
