Volstad Called Up, Tank Sent Down

DENVER -- The Marlins top prospect is now ready to join the big leagues.

Chris Volstad, the 16th overall pick in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft, had his contract selected from Double-A Carolina on Sunday afternoon, and initially he will be available to pitch out of the bullpen.

A 6-foot-7, 21-year-old, Volstad was 4-4 with a 3.36 ERA in 15 starts for Carolina. The right-hander, who is from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., has already logged 91 innings this season. He's struck out 56 while walking 30.

The Marlins are promoting Volstad the day after they optioned lefty reliever Taylor Tankersley to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Volstad could join the rotation during the road trip, which goes from Colorado on Sunday to San Diego on Monday.

apperently he's getting the start tommorow

if that's true, I'm not too happy about him starting in COL (goodbye effective sinker) against a team that has scored 36 runs (avg of 12 runs per game) in the past 3 days.

So, he does well the first time through. I have no problems with keeping him in the pen.

he had a 3.69 ERA in the pen last year and 3.55 ERA in his career.

Being able to move Waechter to a late one inning guy and Hendrickson being the long reliever is big.
