Hanley Named June NL Player of the Month
  Hanley Ramirez has been named the N.L. Player of the Month. He is the first Marlin to garner Player of the Month honors since Jeff Conine did it in 1995. In June, Ramirez batted .298, getting on-base at a .385 clip and slugging .632. The soon-to-be starting shortstop for the National League All-Star team led all National Leaguers in slugging (.632) and OPS (1.016) in June. Hanley swatted 10 home runs in June, the final two of which tied two games in the ninth inning. With his 20th home run of the season on Monday, the studly shortstop from La Republica joined Preston Wilson (2000, 2001), Cliff Floyd (1998, 2000), and Derrek Lee (2003) as the only Marlins in the 20/20 club. A 30/30 season would make him only the second 30/30 man (Preston Wilson, 2000) in franchise history. Ramirez is also looking to become the second Marlin in franchise history to win the fan vote for the starting job on an All-Star team. However, he would be the first Marlin to start the season in Florida to be elected. Gary Sheffield in 1993 spent much of the first half in San Diego. As of Monday, Ramirez led runner-up Miguel Tejada of the Houston Astros by 170,000 votes. Voting ends tonight at midnight. -T&B
