Willingham to be Activated Tuesday

Willingham was very productive before a back injury forced him to the disabled list

The Marlins expect to add outfielder Josh Willingham to the roster Tuesday.

They likely will send a pitcher back to the minors to make room for him.

The Marlins have been carrying 13 pitchers and 12 position players. With interleague play winding down, though, the need for a longer bench becomes greater.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez said he will go slow with Willingham at first.

''I'm not going to run him out there the first seven days in a row,'' Gonzalez said.

Willingham has been out since April 28 because of lower back pain and likely will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, when the Marlins open a homestand against Tampa Bay.

He was a late scratch from Friday's game with Double A Carolina because of a sore wrist that resulted when he dove for a ball Thursday. The injury is not believed to be serious and he is expected to play Saturday.

The question is which pitcher and where would they send him? I would think it would have to be a reliever since a starter (which I put Badenhop in that category) would probably be sent to Carolina and Carolina's rotation is already running at 6 and about to be 7 with JJ's rehab starts.
