Default Uggla and Justin Miller Named May's Best and Worst

Uggla starred, Miller did not

Having one of the greatest months in franchise history is not a feat that should go unrewarded.

In recognition for his monster month of May, Teal and Black users have named Dan Uggla the May Player of the Month. The second basemen received widespread support from fans receiving 96.67% of the vote and one vote shy of a unanimous selection. Luis Gonzalez was the only other vote-getter receiving one vote.

For the month, Dan batted .347, getting on-base at a .425 clip and slugging .827. His 12 home runs in May broke a franchise record for most home runs in a month set by Gary Sheffield in April of 1996 (11). Along with all the home runs, Uggla slammed 11 doubles, drove in 26, scored 28 times and stold one base in two chances.

His performance was key in keeping the offense rolling along after Josh Willingham was disabled with a back injury.

Uggla is fourth amongst National League second basemen in All-Star voting. He currently trails Chase Utley of Philadelphia, by 600,000 votes and Kaz Matsui of Houston by 8,000 votes for third place.

Keeping Castro's Half Summer of '04 Fresh in Our Memories

Meanwhile in the bullpen, Justin Miller has been named the ‘winner’ of Teal and Black’s Ramon Castro Memorial Award for the month of May.

Miller blew away Mike Rabelo and Mark Hendrickson receiving 65% of the vote. The normally dependable reliever posted a 7.50 ERA in May and blew a crucial save in the May 28th loss to New York.

This RCMA is awarded to the player that best exemplifies the art of poor play and performance on the diamond every month. It is named after former Marlins catcher Ramon Castro, who batted .135 as a starting catcher in 2004.
