![]() ![]() Making a rare start in right field, Brett Carroll was escorted off the field in the fourth inning Friday night with a separated right shoulder. The 25-year-old Marlins outfielder crashed into the wall while trying to make a leaping play on Aaron Rowand's opposite-field home run in the Giants' 8-2 win at Dolphin Stadium. An X-ray revealed Carroll has a Level 2 shoulder separation to go with a swollen right side of his face. He also partially tore some ligaments. His arm was tightly wrapped in a sling. The Marlins will place the outfielder, who has the strongest throwing arm of any outfielder in the organization, on the disabled list Saturday. "Where my collarbone is, where it connects to the shoulder, on the X-ray, it's slightly elevated," Carroll said. "It felt like a car wreck when I hit the wall, though." Carroll was making his second start in right field this season. He got the nod to give Jeremy Hermida a night off. The Giants broke the game open with back-to-back homers in the fourth inning off Scott Olsen. After Bengie Molina went deep, Rowand connected on his drive to right. "I just had to turn and go. I didn't know I was that close to the wall," Carroll said. "At this park, I am not able to judge the warning track that well, because it's rubber. I knew I was getting close. I thought I was going to have a chance to jump. When I jumped, I hit the wall, and I'm pretty sure I hit it at full speed. It's not the first time I hit it like that. But this one got the best of me." As Rowand was circling the bases, Marlins center fielder Cody Ross signaled to the dugout for assistance as Carroll was on the ground. Assistant trainer Mike Kozak tended to the outfielder, who was not only dazed, but had his shoulder hurt. "I didn't know my shoulder was messed up," Carroll said. "When I hit, everything just jarred. It was like a rushing headache, and when I was able to sit up, it felt like it was calming down, and then [Kozak] said he wanted to look at my shoulder. He said, 'I've got to get you off the field.' "I'm probably going to be pretty sore tomorrow because I can feel it all across my chest. I'm hoping I can heal quickly." With Carroll headed to the DL, one possible roster replacement is Triple-A Albuquerque infielder Dallas McPherson, who is playing third base and first base. Link |

Wanted to keep my comments separate from the story...
As Frisaro mentioned, I'll be surprised if it's not McPherson that gets the call. With both our CF platoon guys able to play all 3 spots and Amezaga, we basically still have 5 OF, so we don't really need another one. I just hope we don't call him up and then never use him. If they go another route: 40-man is full, but they could easily shift De Aza from the 15-day to the 60-day, so not really limited in that regard Last edited by Hugg; May 24th, 2008 at 05:22 AM.. |
