As voted on by Teal and Black's readers, Hanley Ramirez was named March and April's Player of the month while Andrew Miller recieved the Ramon Catro Memorial which designates the worst Marlin for the month.

The inaugural awards are voted on by the forums' members at the conclusion of each month and named a few days later. The player of the month exemplifies the player who most helped the Marlins to victory in the given month whereas the Ramon Castro Memorial award denotes the player who aided the Fish more in losses.

Ramirez, took the ballot with relative ease garnering nearly half the votes and beating out reliever and bullpen fireman Renyel Pinto.

Ramirez from the leadoff spot batted .324 with 8 HRs and 18 RBI in 111 ABs. He also totaled a .400 on-base percentage while slugging a gaudy .595 to bring his monthly OPS just under 1.000 at .995.

Miller has had a very poor start to the season which didn't get by the fans and he was 'awarded' the distinction in a landslide with over 70% of the total votes.

Miller started 6 times, compiling a record of 1-2 with an ERA of 9.12 and 0 quality starts. He has pitched 25.2 innings, surrendering 48 hits (3 HR) while maintaining a K/BB ratio of 18/13.

Lambasted for their major league-low $21 million payroll and perpetual trading of star players, the Marlins are finally keeping one in the fold. According to a Ramirez acquaintance, shortstop Hanley Ramirez and the Marlins are on the verge of finalizing a six-year, $70 million contract extension, the largest commitment in franchise history. The deal is pending a physical and an official announcement might not come until early next week. The Marlins are believed to have initiated talks during spring training. Ramirez, who is making $439,000 this season, would have been eligible for arbitration after this season. Ramirez is taking a huge home discount as this deal buys out his first three years of free agent eligibility. Marlins President David Samson would not comment. Andy Mota, Ramirez's agent, could not be reached.
