Willingham's Back Lands Him on DL, Carroll Called Up

The Marlins placed outfielder Josh Willingham on the disabled list on Friday and recalled Brett Carroll from Triple-A Albuquerque. Willingham had missed the entire series against the Dodgers with a stiff back.

The left fielder had been a force in the middle of the lineup, batting .341 while clubbing six homers and tallying 16 RBIs.

To fill the power void in the middle of the lineup, Hanley Ramirez was dropped to third in the batting order. It's the first time all season that Ramirez did not lead off. The speedy shortstop has eight homers and a .322 average.

One of the top leadoff hitters in the game, Ramirez has always been projected to be a middle-of-the-order hitter at some point in his career.

Carroll should start today vs the lefty if he can make it on time. Sucks to lose the Hammer though. Maybe Carroll brings his hotness to the Bigs.

But seriously, this sucks with Hammer--our best hitter this season not named Hanley. His ongoing back issues are really worrisome, particularly flaring up again relatively early in the season. Almost as worrisome as Jake's ongoing hand/finger issue.

Hammer has a bad back, we're just going to have to get used to this.

It doesn't go away. It's just a matter of when it's going to flare up and for how long.
