Default Mike Rabelo Called Up, Paul Hoover to AAA

When the Marlins get into their hotel in Houston in preparation for a three-game series with the Astros, they will be joined by catcher Mike Rabelo.

After the Marlins edged the Nationals, 4-3, on Thursday night, the team announced that Rabelo was being reinstated off the 15-day disabled list, where he had been recovering from a left knee sprain.

To make room for Rabelo, catcher Paul Hoover was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque.

The Marlins obtained Rabelo, 28, from the Tigers last December as part of the Miguel Cabrera-Dontrelle Willis trade.

A switch-hitter, Rabelo was injured midway through Spring Training, and he opened the season on the DL, retroactive to March 21.

Rabelo saw action in eight rehab-assignment games for Class A Jupiter. On Thursday, he played six innings and went 1-for-3 before he was given word that he would hook up with the Marlins in Houston.

Rabelo is expected to split the catching duties with Matt Treanor.

Mike Rabelo was reinstated off the 15 day DL following the Marlins 4-3 win over the Nationals.

Rabelo was hitting .200/.250/.267 in 30 at bats in High-A Jupiter.

Really hoping Rabelo doesn't take too much PT away from Treanor.
