![]() ![]() The Florida Marlins optioned pitcher Rick VandenHurk to Double-A Carolina on Sunday, after another rough start for the young right-hander. VandenHurk gave up five hits and four runs -- two earned -- in 2 1/3 innings with four strikeouts and two walks in Florida's 9-2 loss to the Pirates on Sunday. This came on the heels of his first start of the season, when he was pulled with no outs in the third inning of the Marlins' 5-4 comeback win over the Mets on April 1, after allowing six hits and three runs. The 22-year-old righty went 4-6 with a 6.83 earned run average for the Marlins in 2007. A corresponding roster move will be announced Monday. The Sports Network

Have they announced his replacement yet?
They might call up a reliever until RVH's next scheduled start (Friday, I believe).

Please, no more rushing of the youngsters. Pick up someone unemployed (e.g., Jeff Weaver), call up someone older who doesn't need development (e.g., Doug Waechter), or at least an older prospect close to his ceiling (e.g., Badenhop). Last edited by Sashimi; April 6th, 2008 at 05:50 PM.. |

The optioning of him to AA is interesting. I'm thinking either we'll see Badenhop, which would require a removal of someone from the 40 man roster or Badenhop is going to AAA and we'll get one of their starters.

Considering he was sent to AA, I have to think Badenhop gets the call. Just because there's nowhere to put Hurk in the current Carolina rotation. Which is Badenhop, Volstad, Tucker, Thompson and Sinkbeil.
