Hermida May Start Season on DL

Right fielder Jeremy Hermida, who suffered a hamstring strain in his last at-bat against the Orioles on March 15, said a decision would be made soon as to whether he opens the season on the disabled list.

"I'm feeling better, but we'll know something in the next day or two," said Hermida, who took batting practice with the team before the game. "If it is retroactive to March 21, the worst-case scenario is I would miss four games."

Hermida, who is hitting .167 in 36 at-bats, began last season on the disabled list with a bone bruise in his knee.

If Hermida can't play on Opening Day, veteran Luis Gonzalez would start in right field, even though he has been a left fielder.

"He has played in right a lot this spring," Fredi Gonzalez said, "and we will get him some more starts there this spring including the games with the [ New York] Yankees at the big stadium."

Maybe, you know since we don't spend it on payroll, we should actually get more qualified team doctors than some illegals in a van in Hialeah.

It's really ridiculous. The number of injuries to our outfielders (Ross, De Aza last year, Hermida always), to our pitchers (how many guys have had TJ surgery over the last 5 years?)...it's not normal.

Official now.

Mar 27 Hermida (hamstring) will start the season on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, the Associated Press reports.

Recommendation: The goal is to have Hermida return on April 5, meaning he would miss just four games.
