Mitre Under No Throw Status For 4-6 Weeks

After experiencing some discomfort in his throwing arm, Marlins right-hander Sergio Mitre was examined by Dr. James Andrews for further evaluation.

Andrews conducted tests Wednesday and determined that Mitre has a right forearm strain. Mitre is under no-throw status for the next four to six weeks.

Mitre initially experienced forearm muscle tightness during his first Grapefruit League game, on Feb. 28 against the Orioles in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

On Tuesday morning, he threw off the mound for the first time. Mitre and Scott Olsen, who is nursing left shoulder tendinitis, both threw bullpen sessions. Both were slated to throw off the mound again on Thursday.

Now Olsen will continue his throwing program.

Entering Spring Training, Mitre was projected to be in the top of the Marlins' rotation. But his early arm troubles have kept him out of action.

This setback means that Mitre won't be Major League-game ready until June 1 at the earliest.

After seeing Dr. Andrews, Mitre returned to Jupiter, Fla., on Wednesday night.
