Maybin Has Face Infection

Another player in the Minor Leagues to keep an eye on is center fielder Cameron Maybin, who along with Miller, was acquired last December from Detroit in exchange for Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis.

Maybin has not played for Double-A Carolina since Thursday, because he has been dealing with an infection on the left side of his face, on his cheek and near his mouth.

Exactly how the infection developed is unclear.

Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said it may have been a spider bite, although that isn't totally clear. The incident happened while the Mudcats were playing in Alabama.

Maybin went to the hospital, and he is expected to return to playing shortly. With Carolina headed to the Minor League playoffs, it is doubtful the Marlins would bring him up until after the Double-A season concluded.
