MONROE, La. (AP) - Shortstop Ben Soignier will be returning to Louisiana-Monroe for his senior year rather than signing with the Florida Marlins.

Florida picked him in the 17th round of the draft.

He says that low pick was not the main reason he's returning to college. He says that after thinking and talking with his family, he decided it made sense to finish his degree.

Soignier holds a .394 batting average, seventh-highest in school history.

He was a key player in the Warhawks' regular-season championship in the Sun Belt League.

He had the nation's highest runs per game after the league tournament, with an average of 1.46. He had 16 home runs and 21 doubles for the season.
