He was actually the starting QB. This guy is a very good player and was a steal in round 13. Im not sure he will go but he is a very talented player and could help the ball club in the long run. I have played with this kid and known him for a long time and all i can say is that he will do good things in his career. Good luck to him.

Signed.

This time last week, Damien High School senior Danny Pertusati was in the process of graduating high school and looking forward to attending California Baptist University in the fall.

During this past week, Pertusati went from planning his future to standing in a terminal of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Wednesday, mere hours away from encountering that future.

Pertusati, a 13th-round pick of the Florida Marlins last Friday in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, was at DFW - a layover on his way to Jupiter, Fla., where he will start his professional baseball career with the Marlins' Rookie team in the Gulf Coast League.

"It's been a crazy few days," said Pertusati, who finalized his contract with the Marlins Tuesday and left his Ontario home Wednesday. "It's exciting, but I'm a little nervous about leaving home for the first time."

The next step for Pertusati materialized in a matter of days, with him agreeing to sign Saturday and actually signing with the Marlins on Tuesday. That left Pertusati precious little time to say goodbye to close friends and family.

"It seemed like everything was in a blur after I got picked," Pertusati said. "I was just trying to pack, get some extra things I needed and catch up with my friends. By the time I come back, a lot of them will be off to college, so I wanted to say goodbye."

Pertusati expected to be off to Cal Baptist in the fall, but the Marlins' offer turned out to be too good for the Pertusatis to decline.

While Danny and his father, Dennis, wouldn't go into specifics on the contract terms, Dennis suggested that the terms were competitive to the estimated $120,000 that a four-year scholarship to Cal Baptist would be worth.
