Guy must obviously have a signability issue because he is a pretty big high school prospect.

Aflac All-American, on the radar of several sites that follow the big prep prospects.

What happened to Isaac Galloway? He dropped like a rock! Has he suddenly discovered the benefits of a higher education?

A: Jim Callis: Another example of money vs. talent. We had him pegged as a mid-first-rounder and he probably wanted more than that. Will be interesting to see how willing the Marlins are to pay him after taking him in the eighth round.

Baseball America

Galloway has long been on the radar screens of scouts. An Aflac All-American and Area Code Games regular, Issac has dazzled onlookers on the scout ball, travel ball and showcase circuit for two years. Blessed with an ideal tall, lanky and projectable frame, Galloway is a premium athlete, consistently clocking in the 6.5 to 6.6 range in the 60-yard dash at various showcase events. Galloway also possesses an impressive throwing arm, rifling straight line trajectory throws from right field and center field in both pregame and game situations. Over the past two years, Galloway had measurably improved his bat, flashing a fluid natural swing and promising bat speed. In the fall off 2007, he enjoyed impressive wood bat BP sessions at several showcase events. However, Galloway picked a bad time to slump. He has hit poorly this spring, backtracking on the advances he had made in the fall of 2007. His struggles were due in part to an unusually spread-out stance. Despite an easy, smooth swing, Galloway has no load to generate power in his current setup. He's been overpowered by good velocity this spring on a regular basis. Defensively, Galloway is a wonderful outfielder, showing a gliding Torii Hunter/Mike Cameron knack for running down balls in center. While he will need additional experience and polish, Galloway profiles as an above-average defensive outfielder. Galloway's arm also grades out as above-average, though he's lacked accuracy this spring due to poor throwing mechanics. While he has significant tools, they are too raw for him to be a consensus first-round pick
I'll be stunned if we pay him, but man it'd be awesome.

Galloway remains set on pro career - San Bernardino County Sun

"Galloway remains set on pro career
Clay Fowler, Staff Writer
Article Launched: 06/06/2008 11:14:56 PM PDT

Isaac Galloway declared himself a "guaranteed sign" if selected in the first two rounds of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Once the Los Osos High School centerfielder's name was still on the board two rounds into Thursday's draft, Galloway's commitment to San Diego State became an option. Something aroused enough apprehension to let Baseball America's 36th-ranked prospect slip to Day 2.

On Friday, Galloway said he made it known he would not attend college if offered a signing bonus around $200,000. The Florida Marlins promptly selected Galloway with the sixth pick of the eighth round.

"I got offered an amount of money that made me comfortable enough to go pro," Galloway said. "(Thursday) was a little disappointing. I didn't think it would get to the point where I'd fall. I didn't go in the rounds I would have liked to go but my heart was set on playing pro ball."

A deal with the Marlins is not yet done, according to Galloway's adviser, Rich Aude of Wasserman Media Group.

"Once he got past the third round, that's when teams saw him as unsignable," Aude said. "Maybe the Marlins feel they can overpay him in the eighth round."
[/quote]

Sounds like he is going to sign!!!!!!!!! awesome!!!!!

I think the writer of the article got the signing bonus wrong though, only 200k to sign? I am thinking it will take a number closer to or slightly over a million for Galloway to sign.

Fantastic news if accurate... I figured it would take him around $500k-$700k to sign

I hope so but I doubt it.

Wish we can sign him and Mantook (away from LSU, who has said will sign for right amount of money)

Yeah, I don't know how I feel about the legitimacy of that article, but if he actually said this...

"I got offered an amount of money that made me comfortable enough to go pro," Galloway said.

Then, it sounds pretty convincing.

Well if 200,000 is true- this will be a great signing!!

They might have the cash to(Paid Skipworth 100k less than slot and Hand only wants 275k or so),only bad thing is he probably wont play until Aug 15. So that MLB dont get pissed for paying that much to a 8th round pick.

Would love for them to sign Matook or the big 1B Campbell who is going to Nevada on a FB scholarship- Get some more young position guys in the system

Also, Isaac Galloway was suppose to go in the first round and ended up falling to the Marlins in the eighth. Early word is that he may sign so that could be a steal and a half for Florida
