Really like this pick. Looks like he's got a pretty good eye at the plate and decent pop. 11 HRs in just over 200 ABs.

This is pure speculation but considering his defensive ability and the presence of Dominguez I wouldn't be surprised if they try him at 2nd base. He's built like a 2nd baseman.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington State senior Paul Gran was named All-Pacific-10 Conference and the league's Defensive Player of the Year, conference commissioner Tom Hansen announced, Thursday.

A native of Bothell, Wash., Gran batted .313 with 11 home runs and 55 RBI in 54 starts. He added 11 doubles, two triples and seven stolen bases. Gran committed just one error in 163 chances (.994) in 2008. His .993 fielding percentage at third base is a Washington State single-season record.

Junior second baseman/designated hitter Travis Coulter, senior pitcher Jayson Miller, senior first baseman Jim Murphy, senior outfielder Scott Suttmeier, freshman shortstop Shea Vucinich and junior pitcher Matt Way were named honorable mention.

Coulter led the Cougars with a .333 batting average. Miller won a team-high eight games. Murphy belted a team-high 16 home runs and drove in a team-leading 61 runs. Suttmeier batted .327 and hit safely in 29 of his last 31 games. Vucinich tied Murphy for the team lead with 17 doubles. Way posted a team-best 4.01 earned run average.

If he can hack it with the wood he can move up pretty quickly.

Baseball America

The top draft from the two Pac-10 schools figures to be senior infielder Paul Gran, who slid from shortstop to third base for the Cougars. His best present tool is his defense at third base; he made only one error there this spring and has excellent range to go with an average arm. If he cleans up his footwork, he could be an above-average utility player with the ability to move to second base or his old spot at shortstop. His lefthanded bat and 55 speed (fringe above-average on the 20-to-80 scouting scale) further his future utility profile. He's a cerebral hitter who sometimes overthinks at the plate and swings and misses more than he should. He has raw pull power and should be one of the first college seniors drafted.

Seems like my assumption that he'll be moved from 3rd base was a correct one. I really like this pick.
